SUMO Affiliates – WooCommerce Affiliate Plugin  allows members(logged in users) to register as Affiliates and promote the products sold on your WooCommerce Shop. Whenever a user purchases a product by using an Affiliate Link, then the Affiliate associated with the link will earn commission for the purchase.

 Getting Started with SUMO Affiliates – WooCommerce Affiliate Plugin

Here we will explain the basics of SUMO Affiliates.

1) Affiliates

Logged in users will have the ability to become an Affiliate. They will earn a commission whenever the customer purchases the product by using the Affiliate link.

2) Commission

Two types of Commission can be configured,
a. Fixed Commission
b. Commission based on the Percentage of Product Price

3) Creatives

Affiliates can make use of the Image/Banner and bring more users to the site. This is another way of referring members.

4) Configuration

i) Quick Setup

Using Quick Setup, you can configure the commission at Affiliate Level/Global Level.

Priority in Quick Setup

If the commission is configured in both the levels[Affiliate Level/Global Level], the commission rate will be calculated as follows,

a. When the commission is configured in Affiliate Level, then the commission rate given at this level will be used for calculation.

b. When the commission type is set as Default Type in Affiliate Level, then the commission rate will be calculated from the Global Level.

ii) Advanced Setup

Using Advanced Setup, you can configure the commission at Product Level/Affiliate Level/Global Level.

Note: Product Level settings are shown and will be used for calculation only when Advanced Setup is selected.

Priority in Advanced Setup

If commission is configured at all three levels, the commission rate will be calculated as per the priority which is explained below

1. When the commission has been configured at Product Level, then the commission rate from Product Level will be calculated for the product.

2. When the commission is not configured at Product Level, then the behaviour will be as follows,

a. If the commission were configured in Affiliate Level, then the commission rate given at this level will be calculated.

b. If the commission type is set as Default Type in Affiliate Level, then the commission rate will be calculated from the Global Level.

1) How to become a WooCommerce Affiliate?

a. During Account Signup

a. If users wish to become affiliate while registering on the site, then they have to select the enable affiliate checkbox and fill the form.

b. Submitted form will be listed for the admin’s approval.

c. Site admin can approve or reject the submitted Affiliate Application.

d. Member will become Affiliates on the site, once the admin has approved the Application.

e. A separate dashboard along with the unique information like Affiliate Link, Commission, Creatives, Visits, Statistics and Settings will be displayed for each affiliate.

b. By Submitting Affiliate Application

a. Place the shortcode[sumoaffiliates] in a new page to display the affiliate form.

b. Members[Logged in Users] need to fill the required details provided in the Affiliate Application and submit the Application.

c. The steps which are mentioned on Registering on the site type will be followed.

2) How can Affiliate Promote your Shop?

i) Affiliate Link Generator

a. The Affiliate Link generator will be available on the affiliate dashboard. Affiliates can use the Link Generator for generating any number of Affiliate Links.

b. Once the Link has been generated, the link can be promoted through any medium.

c. Affiliate will start to earn commission whenever the customers purchase a product by using the Affiliate link.

ii) Refer a Friend Form

a. Affiliates can send emails with Affiliate Links directly from the site by using the Refer a Friend Form.

b. The Refer a Friend from will be prefilled with the Affiliate Link. The Affiliate can modify/use the existing link for sending the email.

c. If new users create an account on the site by using the Affiliate link and purchase a product, then Affiliate will earn commissions for the product purchases.

d. The Validity of the Affiliate Link is based on the Affiliate Cookies. The Validity of the affiliate cookies can be customized.

e. Lifetime Affiliate Linking is also possible.

iii) Manual Referral Linking

a. Manual Referral Linking allows the Site Admin to manually link an Affiliate and a Customer. So, whenever the Customer makes a purchase, the Affiliate will earn a commission.

b. By default, the affiliate will earn a commission whenever customers make the purchase using the corresponding affiliate link. In case if the customer is associated with more than one affiliate link, then affiliate commission will be given affiliate with whose link has been used at last[Credit Last Referral option has to be enabled].

Note: Manual Referral Linking is not based on cookies.

iv) Creatives

a. Creatives are Banner Ads which are embedded with Affiliate Links.

b. Creatives have to be created by the Site Admin. The Site Admin has to select the Baner Ad Image for the Creatives and Publish it.

c. Once Published, the Affiliate Links will be embedded in Baner Ads Automatically.

d. Affiliate can use these Creatives to promote their Affiliate Links.

3) Affiliate Link Types

a. Affiliate Link allows the customers to be associated with the affiliate who referred them.

b. Each Affiliate link is unique. This uniqueness is achieved by appending the Affiliate’s Username with the URL.

c. Alternatively, Affiliate’s Userid can also be appended to the URL.

d. Site admin has the option to control whether Affiliate’s Username/Userid has to be appended to the Affiliate Link

Example

a. If it is a Username, then the affiliate link will look like,
https://demosite.com/index.php?ref=nickyboje. nickyboje indicates the Username.

b. If it is a User id, then the affiliate link will look like,
https://demosite.com/index.php?ref=77. Here 77 indicates the User id.

4) Commission

Admin Side

a. The information provided in the Commission section are Affiliate Name, Affiliate id, Order Id, Commission Amount, Payment Status, etc.

b. Whenever a member purchases a product through the affiliate link, then the corresponding details will be listed in the commission section.

c. The Commission can be set to be approved automatically/manually.

d. Once the commission gets approved, the payment status will become unpaid.

e. Commissions have to be manually Paid by the Site Admin.

f. You can export the Unpaid commission as CSV for Paypal Mass Payment.

5) Multi-Level Marketing

a. Multi-Level Marketing which is also known as MLM can be achieved using SUMO Affiliates.

b. Site Admin can configure the number of direct referrals for each affiliate.

c. The Affiliate Depth can be configured.

d. The percentage for each level can be configured.

Example:

Consider the following Scenario,

1. Number of Direct Referrals for Each Affiliate- 2

3. User A, User B, User C, User D(All 4 are Logged in Users)

Commission Type- Fixed Commission and Commission Value – $50

a. User A became an Affiliate in the site and generates a link. User B is registered on the site through User A’s link(Now User A is an Affiliate and User B is a customer). User A will earn Product Purchase Commission($50) whenever User B purchases the product.

b. User B became an Affiliate on the site and generates a link. User C is registered on the site through User B’s link(Now User B is an Affiliate and User C is a customer). If User C purchases the $100 product, then User B will receive Commission as $50 and User A will receive Commission as $5( Level 1 Commission Percentage).

c. User C became an Affiliate in the site and generates a link. User D is registered on the site through User C’s link(Now User C is an Affiliate and User D is a customer). If User D purchases the $100 product, then User C will receive Commission as $50, User B will receive Commission as $5(reached the Level 1 Percentage) and User A will receive Commission as $10(reached the Level 2 Percentage).

Note:

1. In the above-mentioned example, a commission can be earned only on two levels.

2. The Commission cannot be earned if the referral count exceeds the number of direct referrals.

6) Visits

a. The Affiliate Visits Table displays the list of Affiliate URL’s which were accessed by the customer.

b. The Link also shows whether the Link has been converted or not.
