The realm of cryptocurrency is a constantly-changing place. Keeping up with the latest developments and the newest currencies can be a challenge. Therefore, it helps to have one location to get information about key updates.

If you or your audience is interested in this field, you can provide an invaluable resource by creating a cryptocurrency news portal. This is a website that collates all the news and developments in cryptocurrency, and makes it easy for visitors to get up to speed quickly.

In this post, we’ll talk a little more about why a cryptocurrency news portal is useful. Then we’ll walk you through how to create one. Let’s get to work!

Why a CryptoCurrency News Portal Can Be a Valuable Resource

As the internet gets ever bigger, it becomes more difficult to find the information you need. This is particularly true for a niche field like cryptocurrency. If you’re looking to stay up-to-date, you might have to check out a dozen different sites on a regular basis.

A news portal is an excellent solution to this problem. This is a website that collects news articles, blog posts, and other recent content about a particular subject, and displays all of it in one convenient location.

For an example, you can check out Crypto Headlines, a cryptocurrency news portal we put together:

The Crypto Headlines website.

The site’s streamlined design helps visitors find exactly what they’re looking for quickly. News is organized by source, and also broken down into mediums such as videos and podcasts. For cryptocurrency enthusiasts, a site like this provides all the information they’ll need at a glance.

If your existing audience is interested in cryptocurrency, or you’re looking to get involved in the field, you may be interested in creating your own news portal. Fortunately, this isn’t a difficult task.

How to Create a CryptoCurrency News Portal (In 4 Steps)

We highly recommend using WordPress to create your cryptocurrency news portal. Not only is it a powerful and flexible platform, it also provides access to tools that make it easy to add key features to your portal.

Therefore, the first thing you’ll want to do is set up a new WordPress site. You’ll also need to pick out a domain name, and purchase a web hosting plan. After that, you’re ready to get started!

Step 1: Select a Theme for Your Site

First, your site will need a theme. You’re free to choose whatever you like, but it’s a good idea to opt for a news-focused theme. This is more likely to offer the features and layouts you’ll need.

There are even niche-specific themes you can try, such as Crypto from MyThemeShop:

The Crypto WordPress theme.

This is the theme we used for our own cryptocurrency news portal and it offers a number of demos and layouts that are well-suited for this purpose. Crypto also makes it easy to display prices, create dedicated pages for specific currencies, and more.

Step 2: Install and Configure the WP RSS Aggregator Plugin

Gathering news and updating your cryptocurrency news portal manually would be a time-consuming process. Fortunately, you can save a lot of time by using the WP RSS Aggregator plugin:

The WP RSS Aggregator plugin.

This tool helps you aggregate RSS and Atom feeds in WordPress. You can subscribe to whatever feeds you like, integrate them with your site, and display the results automatically. There are no limits on the number of sources and news items you can work with.

After installing and activating the plugin, you can set up your first feed by going to RSS Aggregator > Add New in your dashboard:

Adding a new feed in the WP RSS Aggregator plugin.

You can choose a URL, decide how feed content will be published, choose whether to import images, and a lot more.

After adding the feeds you want to track, you can find them all listed under Feed Sources:

You can also view individual stories under Feed Items or Posts, depending on how you’d like to display them:

You can display your chosen feeds on the site’s front end using a shortcode. The basic shortcode for WP RSS Aggregator looks like this:

However, it’s also highly customizable, so you can choose what sources are displayed and how. For more details on configuring this shortcode, check out the plugin’s documentation. Then, simply paste the code into a page, post, custom content type, or widget area, and visitors will be able to see new feed items as they’re published.

As you can see, setting up feed sources is a quick and simple process – as is displaying them. Plus, you can import many types of cryptocurrency-related content, from blog posts and news articles to videos, podcasts, and even jobs.

It’s also worth noting that, while we’ve used WordPress’ Classic Editor to set up our own news portal, you can also use the new Block Editor. In fact, the developers of WP RSS Aggregator are working on block-related functionality that will make it easier to set up custom layouts in the future – another reason this plugin is a vital tool.

Step 3: Organize Your Content’s Layout

Using the method described above, you can display cryptocurrency news pretty much anywhere on your site. Instead of simply embedding each feed on a page, however, you can carefully organize the way your content is laid out. This will make it easier to understand and consume.

Alternatively to using the shortcode display from WP RSS Aggregator, you can import the content as Posts and display them anywhere on your site. To do that, we’d suggest using the ContentViews plugin:

The ContentViews plugin.

This will enable you to easily set up grids and lists for specific types of content on your site. For instance, you could create one content view for news articles, another for podcasts, and a third for jobs. With each, you can customize what information is included and how it’s displayed:

Toolset Views is another plugin that can get the job done (while offering more options). Whatever tool you use, it’s smart to take your time with this step, and make sure your cryptocurrency news portal’s layout is as user-friendly as possible.

Step 4: Set Up Additional Plugins as Needed

At this point, you have a fully-functioning news portal. However, there are a few more plugins you may want to consider installing.

To round out your site’s feature set, we’d recommend picking up:

  • CryptoWP: This plugin enables you to easily display the current prices for various currencies.
  • MonsterInsights: With this tool, you can track your site’s metrics via Google Analytics.
  • Ninja Forms: Creating a simple contact form enables visitors to get in touch.
  • ManageWP: This multi-purpose plugin helps you better manage your cryptocurrency news portal’s security, updates, backups, and more.

Of course, there are plenty of other plugins worth checking out as well! However, it’s best to keep your news portal simple and streamlined, and maintain a clear focus on your feed content.

Conclusion

Cryptocurrency is an exciting field – not the least of which is because of how quickly it changes. Keeping up with everything can feel like a full time job, which is why it’s useful to have a one-stop shop for everything crypto-related.

The good news is that setting up your own cryptocurrency news portal isn’t hard. All you need to do is:

  1. Select a theme for your site, such as Crypto.
  2. Install and configure the WP RSS Aggregator plugin.
  3. Organize your content’s layout, using a plugin like ContentViewsΒ or Toolset Views.
  4. Set up additional plugins as needed (for example, CryptoWP and ManageWP).
