Growmatik Review: Easy WordPress Marketing Automation & Personalization

This review was performed as part of a paid product analysis using our in-depth Analysis Methodology, which includes manually testing the product. Here’s why you can trust our methods and verdict.

Growmatik has to be one of the most seamless experiences I’ve had with marketing automation tools. I’ve tried a few over the years, but this one didn’t feel as technical as the rest. It really felt like the ideal solution for the solopreneurs and non-technical marketers among us.

I’ve been struggling to find an easy way to introduce more automation to my WordPress site.

There are plenty of options that look great, but I never knew where to start or which one was the best for me as a non-technical person.

I found Growmatik during my research and it seemed like a solution that could combine marketing, automation, and personalization – all of which were important to me.

So when we got in touch and I had the chance to test out their solution, I was optimistic.

My goal during all this was to learn the ropes and decide whether it could be the right solution for me in the future, all while I share my honest thoughts with you through this review.

Growmatik review

Growmatik works for regular WordPress sites but it also has eCommerce features for WooCommerce stores, Easy Digital Downloads support, along with Shopify support.

As I got to grips with Growmatik, I found that you can connect with your users across three touchpoints – your website, popups, and emails. So it could help non-technical people like yourself to:

  • Personalize your existing website’s content.
  • Create popups to display on your website.
  • Send emails to your customers/leads.

In these three areas, you’re able to use an array of automation rules to enhance your marketing. For example, you can display a special popup for people who purchased a certain product. Or, you could choose which products to display on your front page based on the products that a user is interested in/has purchased. The automation possibilities seem pretty endless.

Whether you’re personalizing your existing content or creating a popup or email message, you’ll be able to do everything from a visual drag-and-drop interface without needing any special technical knowledge. This impressed me early on.

Beyond that, you can create customer segments based on over 50+ different attributes, including website activity, referring sources, and more. You can also create automation rules based on the segments that you create.

Growmatik comes from Artbees, which is the same team behind two other products you might know – the popular Jupiter X theme (over 166,000 sales at ThemeForest) and WunderWP, a popular tool for Elementor power users that lets people quickly apply presets or reusable styles.

Overall, it turned out to be a powerful tool that can simplify your marketing efforts on WordPress by giving you one unified interface to manage pretty much everything.

Follow my process as I test Growmatik and show you what it can do.

Growmatik Review: A Quick Overview of How It Works

To get started with Growmatik, you’ll install the official integration plugin at WordPress.org and connect it to your Growmatik account (there’s a free trial). Growmatik uses the WordPress API, so the connection process is as simple as clicking a button.

Once you click that button, Growmatik will automatically sync your WordPress site with the Growmatik platform.

From then on, you’ll do everything from the Growmatik cloud dashboard (not your WordPress site). However, Growmatik will automatically keep everything in sync. For example, if you get a new user or WooCommerce order, that info will automatically show up in your Growmatik dashboard.

The Growmatik dashboard is divided into four separate areas, which you can access from the options on the left:

  • Analytics – see all the details about your website traffic, campaign effectiveness, sales, customers, email engagement, and more.
  • Automations – create automated rules, such as displaying a popup to certain visitors, sending emails, or personalizing your site’s content. This is the meat of Growmatik’s functionality.
  • People – view all of your users and break them down into different segments using 50+ conditions.
  • Workshop – create “stuff” for your site. You can create emails to send to users, popups, and personalized content. This has a lot of overlap with the features in the Automations tab.

Below, we’ll take a hands-on look at the different things you can do in these various account areas.

Hands-On With Growmatik’s Features

Now that you have a basic idea of how to get up and running with Growmatik, I want to take a hands-on look at some of the most useful features.

Note – for some of these screenshots, I’ll use example photos. The reason is that I”m using Growmatik on a test site without a lot of data, so some of the features look a little empty.

The Setup Process Takes Just 2 Minutes

I touched on this above, but I first want to go a little more in-depth with what it’s like to set up your site with Growmatik.

Overall, it’s quite easy and you can be up and running in just a couple of minutes.

To begin, you’ll choose your platform – either WordPress/WooCommerce, Shopify, or the “I’m not selling online” option:

Growmatik setup

For our Growmatik review, I’m using WordPress, but I imagine the Shopify setup process is similarly easy.

Next, you just need to do is enter the name of your business and its website URL:

ADd business details

Then, you’ll enter a few basic details about your business (which you can skip if desired) and choose a plan. More on pricing later, but you get a 14-day free trial with no credit card required.

Once you’ve chosen your plan, Growmatik launches you into a helpful “Getting Started” interface that lists all of the steps you need to get up and running with Growmatik.

I like this interface because Growmatik offers a lot of features, so having a structured guide makes things easy to understand.

Growmatik dashboard

If you’d like some more direct attention, you can also schedule a Zoom call.

To actually connect your WordPress/WooCommerce site, here’s all you need to do:

  1. Install the Growmatik plugin, which is listed at WordPress.org.
  2. Go to Settings → Growmatik in your WordPress dashboard.
  3. Click the Connect & Activate button.
  4. Click the Authorize access button on the Growmatik auth prompt page.
Growmatik WordPress auth

And that’s it! Your site is now connected to Growmatik.

In the plugin’s settings, you also get a few additional options to control basic behavior, mainly whether to ask for marketing email consent in certain parts of your site:

plugin settings

If needed, you can also import your contacts from other services or a CSV file.

Now, it’s time to dig into the features!

Web and Marketing Analytics Are Comprehensive

The Analytics tab offers detailed analytics to help you understand everything that’s happening on your site, including:

  • Campaigns – keep track of the effectiveness of all your Growmatik automation campaigns. More on setting up campaigns in a bit.
  • Site Engagement – see basic web analytics such as how many users, sessions, and page views your site has, along with bounce rate data. You can also drill down into specific pages, referrers, UTM tags, countries, and search terms.
  • Sales – if you’re selling products, you can track orders, revenue, conversion rates, repeat purchases, and more.
  • Customers – keep track of how many leads/customers you have, including new leads/customers and returning leads/customers.
  • Email Engagement – track engagement for the emails that you send with Growmatik, including clicks, opens, and so on. More on email campaigns in a bit.
Growmatik analytics

For some of the reports, you can click the button in the top-right corner to expand more information.

For example, clicking Product analytics in the Sales report lets you break out your revenue and sales data by individual products.

You’ll also be able to see analytics for individual automations that you create, which will make more sense in a second once we go over how automations work.

Creating Personalized Content With Automations Is Painless

An “automation” lets you perform an action automatically based on rules that you create. The main actions are as follows:

  • Personalizing content on your website.
  • Showing a popup.
  • Sending an email.

You also get some other options, though, such as redirecting users to a different URL.

For example, you might create an automation to show a special popup to users who visit your site from a guest post that you wrote on another site. You would do this by triggering the popup for users with a certain referring URL.

Growmatik’s automations now come in two flavors:

  • Rules – create one specific trigger/action combination. E.g. show a single popup to people who meet certain criteria.
  • Workflows – create multi-step workflows. E.g. send an entire sequence of emails to users or personalize your website and then send an email to people who saw that personalized version.

Growmatik’s automation and personalized features are one of the most powerful parts of the tool. At least personally, I haven’t seen another tool that makes it this easy to set up marketing automation on WordPress. The ease with which it integrates into your site is one of the most defining features.

Creating automations

I’ll talk about some specific types of automations in a second – e.g. creating popups or personalizing web content.

But first, let’s look at what it’s like to create an automation in general, starting with a rule.

Configuring Your Rule

Automation rules are comprised of two key elements:

  • Trigger – this is what launches your automation rule. It has two sub-elements – Event and Audience. The Event is actions/conditions that will trigger the rule – e.g. a user visiting a certain page, ordering a product, using a certain device, abandoning their cart, etc. The Audience is the group of users who are eligible for the trigger. You could target every single visitor or only specific segments of your audience. More on creating segments later.
  • Action – this is what you want to happen after the trigger. It could be personalizing a webpage, sending an email, showing a popup, redirecting the user to a different page, and more.

When you create a new rule, you can choose to start from scratch or start from a template:

Starting point

If you choose a template, you’ll see a long list on the side along with the associated trigger and action configurations:

Rule templates

If you start from scratch, you’ll need to set up your own triggers and actions:

Custom rule

Depending on your chosen action, you’ll get a number of options to configure it further:

Configure action

Overall, you get a massive number of trigger events, which gives you a lot of flexibility for setting up your automations.

Creating Workflows

Workflows are a new type of Growmatik automation that are currently still in beta at the time of our Growmatik review.

With a rule, you’re essentially automating one action at a time. But with workflows, you get a full workflow builder to set up complete sequences, with as many triggers, actions, branches, delays, etc. as needed:

Growmatik Workflow builder review

Overall, these workflows give you a ton of power for automating your site in even more advanced ways.

How to Create Popups, Emails, and Website Personalizations

Above, I showed you how you can create automations to display popups, send emails, personalize website content, and more.

But what I haven’t touched on yet is how to actually customize the content/design of those popups, emails, and personalizations.

There are two ways that you can do this:

  1. You can create/customize the content directly from the automation builder.
  2. You can use the Workshop tab to set up your content templates separately. You can then use these workshop designs when setting up your automations.

Beyond creating your own designs, Growmatik also comes with some of its own pre-built templates.

I’m going to show you what it looks like to create your designs from the automations interface. Just remember that the Workshop is also an option and you’ll be able to access the same visual builders from the workshop.

Creating Popups

To control the design of your popup, you can click the Design Popup button in the action interface:

Designing a popup

You can then choose from a pre-made template or start from scratch:

Popup templates

Then, you’ll get a visual, drag-and-drop builder where you can fully customize the content and design of the popup, including inserting dynamic content (such as a user’s first name):

Visual popup builder

Creating Emails

To control the design of an email, you can click the Design Email button, just like you did for popups:

Design email

You can then choose from pre-made templates or build your own from scratch:

Email templates

Then, you’ll get a visual drag-and-drop builder to configure everything. As with popups, you can also dynamically insert content in your emails, including pulling in certain WooCommerce products (even to the extent of personalizing the products based on each individual user’s activity).

Visual email builder

Personalizing Your Website

The website personalization interface is one of the coolest parts of Growmatik, as it lets you customize your site’s actual content using a visual interface.

To start, you’ll enter the page that you want to personalize and then click the Personalize page button:

Personalize website page

Then, the content personalizer will automatically pull in the actual content of the page. You can edit it right there using a visual interface – no code needed.

If you’ve ever used Google Optimize for A/B testing, it works in a very similar way.

For example, to edit text, you just click on it and make your edits:

Visual interface to personalize website

Super cool!

Using the Workshop

Again – in addition to setting up content from the automation builder, you can also create your own templates directly from the Workshop:

Manage Contacts and Create Segments

To manage your contacts and create segments, you can use the People tab.

The All Contacts page lists all of the contacts on your site:

Contact list

However, the real magic here is in creating laser-targeted segments, which you can do based on over 50+ different conditions.

Segments help you filter and organize your site’s leads and customers. You can also use them in your automation rules. For example, you could create a popup, email, or personalization rule that specifically targets a segment that you’ve created.

To create segments, you can either start from scratch or choose from templates, just as with automation rules:

Creating segments

For templates, you’ll find many useful options for common customer types:

Segment template

If you start from scratch, you can also create your own custom segments based on over 50+ conditions. You can mix and match as many conditions as needed to create the most useful segment for your marketing efforts. You’ll be able to segment visitors by:

  • Personal details
  • Referring source
  • Activity on your site
  • Engagement (e.g. do they open your emails, click on them, etc)
  • Shopping activity (e.g. do they have an abandoned cart)
Custom segments

For example, you could filter out people who came from Facebook and purchased a certain product, or an infinite number of other combinations.

Once you’ve set up segments, you can start using them in your automations via the Audience rules.

4 Simple Pricing Plans & a 14-Day Free Trial

Growmatik offers four transparent pricing plans.

It no longer offers a free plan, but you can test out any plan with a 14-day free trial – no credit card required.

The main limitations of the different plan tiers are:

  1. Number of marketing audiences – one “marketing audience” is a unique person who has been subject to automation by Growmatik. Anonymous visitors who don’t trigger any interaction with Growmatik wouldn’t count. Similarly, each unique person only counts once – you are not charged for multiple sessions from the same person (within the same month).
  2. Number of automation rules

All plans include unlimited contacts and email sends, as well as SMTP emails (which most other marketing tools charge extra for or require 3rd-party services), which is quite generous in my opinion.

My Final Thoughts on Growmatik: I’m Impressed

Overall, I was quite impressed with Growmatik because of how easy it made it to access these types of powerful marketing automation rules on WordPress.

You can connect with your customers across three main touchpoints:

  • Your website
  • Popups
  • Emails

But the most powerful thing is how easy Growmatik makes it to automate and customize these different touchpoints.

For example, personalizing any page on your site is as simple as using Growmatik’s visual builder. You can delete existing content, change text, and add new content. The integration was seamless and “just works”.

For emails and popups, you get pre-made templates and can also further customize things using a visual builder.

What’s more, you also get powerful conditions to create your own custom segments, along with the ability to connect with those segments via the touchpoints above.

The automation rule builder is also quite flexible and the new workflows feature (in beta) opens up even more advanced automation possibilities.

The most important thing, though, is that it all feels pretty simple and seamless. I’ve used other marketing automation tools and they always felt too technical to me. But Growmatik seems like something that a solopreneur or non-technical marketer will have no problem using.

If you want to get started, you can sign up for a 14-day free trial today – no credit card required.
