Wouldn’t it be great if every time a customer browsed a product page on your WooCommerce store, you could present them with a range of complementary products that were frequently bought together with the item in question?

Pioneered and mastered by the eCommerce giant Amazon, showing a range of recommended products just before the checkout is one of the oldest tricks in the book when it comes to boosting sales in online retail.

The issue? Despite being a tried and tested feature of the most successful eCommerce sites, it doesn’t come as part of a standard WooCommerce setup. However, the good news is you can add this sales tactic to your store with the help of a plugin.

By the end of this article, you’ll know exactly how to add recommended products to your WooCommerce store with the cross-selling plugin, Iconic Sales Booster for WooCommerce.

Adding recommended products to your WooCommerce store has already been proven to increase sales, but why is this the case? First and foremost, it harnesses the physiological power of social proof to steer customers into adding more products to their cart.

Phrases such as ‘Frequently Bought Together’ and ‘Customers Also Bought’ not only leverage the social influence of peer pressure, but it gives you social proof that your store is big and trustworthy enough to have customer trends.

It’s also a chance to present customers with recommended related products that perhaps your shoppers may not have previously considered or even realized you sell. After all, customers can’t buy products if they don’t know they exist!

As a bonus, by attaching a special discount to WooCommerce recommended products, you can further sweeten the deal for customers and increase conversions.

In this section, we’ll walk you through the process of creating recommended products for your WooCommerce store. The best part is that it will only take you a few minutes to get set up.

Step 1: Install Iconic Sales Booster for WooCommerce

To get started, purchase Iconic Sales Booster for WooCommerce from the Iconic store.

  2. Choose the zip file you downloaded, upload it, and then click Activate.
  3. Once activated, you’ll need to enter your license key.

Now that we’ve installed Iconic Sales Booster for WooCommerce, we can move on to configuring your recommended products.

Let’s start with configuring recommended products that are displayed on the product pages of your WooCommerce store.

To add a ‘Frequently Bought Together’ module to your product pages in an Amazon-style fashion, take the following steps:

  1. Login to your WordPress admin area.
  2. Navigate to Products.
  3. Select the product you want to add cross-sells to.
  4. Scroll down to the Product data section and click on the Sales Booster tab.

It’s worth mentioning that if your customer has already placed one of the cross-sell items in the basket, it will not appear in the ‘Frequently Bought Together’ section.

Now let’s turn our attention to cross-selling products to customers who’ve already indicated buyer intent by adding a product to their cart.

To add a ‘Customers Also Bought’ pop-up after a consumer adds a product to their cart, take the following steps:

  1. Follow steps 1 through 4 from above.
  2. In the After Add to Cart field, start typing the name, SKU, or ID of a product you want to offer as a cross-sell.

That’s it! Now you have conversion-optimizing recommended products added to your WooCommerce store.

But wait – there’s more!

Include your checkout and post-checkout pages

Beyond adding recommended products on product pages and pop-ups, you can also use Iconic Sales Booster to display one-time offers on your checkout form.

By applying a one-time offer or discount to recommended products that match those in the cart, you’ll create an offer that’s impossible to say no to.

You can also target the post-checkout process. Post-purchase cross-sells harness the power of impulse buying and has the highest conversion rate of any cross-sell location. Once again, you can utilize this plugin to offer a related product with the convenience of a one-click purchase.
