In this post I’d like to talk about money, specifically the profits you make from your WordPress business. I don’t really care what type of business you have, whether you’re a freelancer, agency, plugin or theme seller, SAAS owner, etc.

The bottom line is that you hopefully have a healthy stream of revenue coming in every year, and you’re making a tidy profit at the end of the year. The first objective for any business is to turn a profit and be able to save a percentage of that profit year after year. In fact, this same concept can be applied to personal finances as well.

When you’ve got a nice sum saved, the question arises:

How do I combat the effects of inflation and make this money work for me?

There is little reason to let your money die a slow death in a bank account. Most accounts don’t provide any interest returns nowadays, so your money will be worth less year after year due to the effects of inflation.

In the past four years or so I’ve been dedicating a lot of time to learn the ins and outs of investing, and have experimented with many different types of investing with varying results.

Here are the investment options I recommend as of 2019.

Property Crowdfunding

Owning property has always been a good idea, and with crowdfunding platforms, you can start off small and diverse on a wide geographic basis. You can also invest in different types of properties. Europe is probably the hottest place for real estate crowdfunding activity at the moment, although the US also has its share of good platforms, such as Fundrise and Realtymogul.

If you’re European or simply want to invest in European property, I suggest you have a look at my post detailing the top European property crowdfunding websites of 2019.

Peer to Peer Loans

People and businesses are always in need of loans, but for many years this area had been the sole purview of banks. During the past five years, however, there’s been a big influx of platforms that connect people with extra cash to others who are in need of money. Thus, the banks are out of the equation. There are many types of loans you can get involved in, and the returns can range from 5-20%.

I’ve written about the top European sites for peer to peer lending to individuals over on my blog, and I’ve been able to obtain returns of around 12% for the past few years. This has definitely been my best investment in terms of consistently high returns so far. My favorite platform for P2P lending is Mintos.

Stock Market

Investing in the stock market is one of the most popular ways of investment. After having read many books on the topic and spoken with successful stock market investors, I’ve come to the conclusion that the most time-efficient and safe way of investing in the stock market is through index funds such as those sold by Vanguard.

You can also invest specifically in companies that give dividends, so that you can enjoy that yearly income and not only depend on the stock price appreciation. This technique is called dividend growth investing. Whatever strategy you use, I would recommend stocks as an important part of any investment portfolio.

I realize that many people consider putting money in cryptocurrencies as gambling and not investing. However, I beg to differ. I think risking a sensible amount of money and investing it in cryptos can reap very high returns in the future. Although most cryptos have been through turbulent times recently, I believe that long-term the future is bright.

The best thing about all these investments is that they can be done from the comfort of your own home or office. All the above investments can be performed through online platforms.

Hope you enjoyed reading about these investment ideas. How do you go about investing your business profits?
