How to Insert BuySellAds Banners into WordPress

Banner advertisements are one of the major money makers for most blogs, and BuySellAds is a great network to use whether you're an advertiser or a publisher. BuySellAds helped WP Mayor survive during the early days by providing monthly income to cover hosting and other small expenses. I still use them to handle advertising on this site and I wholeheartedly recommend them.

Banner advertisements are one of the major money makers for most blogs, and BuySellAds is a great network to use whether you’re an advertiser or a publisher. BuySellAds helped WP Mayor survive during the early days by providing monthly income to cover hosting and other small expenses. I still use them to handle advertising on this site and I wholeheartedly recommend them.

Step 1 therefore consists of you signing up for an account at Buysellads.com. Once that’s over and done with, you’ll want to head to your WordPress website.

For the second step, I want you to install the Buysellads plugin. Just head over to Plugins > Add New and type Buysellads into the search box. This plugin installs the necessary code on your side to display the ads.

Once installed and activated, BuySellAds will be available via a menu entry. Click on it and you’ll be taken to the settings screen. As a sidenote here I think the guys at BuySellAds should remove this panel from the main menu in the dashboard, these settings are not used regularly, probably only once when setting things up, so they should be better located under the Settings menu.

All you need to enter in the settings screen is your site key. This can be the confusing part for many users.

Here’s what you need to do. You can find the site key from your Dashboard. To see it, log in via BuySellAds.com, click on your email address at the top of the page, and click “Dashboard”. Click the “Actions” dropdown next to one of your ad zones and click “Ad Settings”.

Your site key is the part of the STEP 2 code without the “bsap_”

In this example, ‘4d23a9e08e0ab6a836a2b19f55a52e14’ is the site key:

bsap_4d23a9e08e0ab6a836a2b19f55a52e14

Once you insert the key and hit Save at the bottom of the settings screen, you’re good to go. Just head over to Appearance > Widgets and drag the BuySellAds widget into one of your sidebar locations.

If you want to tweak some settings, such as enable or disable the Advertise Here image, you need to go to your inventory’s Ad Code and Display Styles page, as shown below.
