In continuation with the reviews of addons for WP Video Robot plugin, in this post, I will take a closer look at the Monetizer addon. As the name suggests, the Monetizer addon is what you would use if you wish to monetize your videos that are posted via the WP Video Robot plugin.
Monetizer Addon for WP Video Robot Plugin
Monetizer addon lets you monetize the videos that you import to your website via the WP Video Robot plugin. Essentially, it adds an overlay mask above the video player, wherein you can show a custom message as well as your ads. And yes, before you ask, Google AdSense is obviously supported.
Much like YouTube, you can set up a countdown counter for the ads (“Your video in 00:07”, for example), or enable/disable the close button.
Since for any video website, the focus of the user lies on the video player and not on the sidebar, showing your ads in the player before the video plays is a good idea, and as a result, the Monetizer addon is one of the most useful addons for the plugin.
Mode of Operation
Getting the Monetizer addon up and running is pretty easy. You upload and activate it much like a standalone plugin. Thereafter, you head over to the WPVR Addons sub-menu in the WordPress admin panel. You will see the Monetizer addon active on that page. Upon clicking the Settings button, you will get to customize the addon to suit your needs.
Now, setup of the addon is fairly direct, but you need to know what you are doing. First, it requires you to select the video categories for which the addon will be active. This is perfect, in my opinion, because you may not wish to show advertisements on every video category. Next, you can enable or disable the close button, show or hide the countdown timer, and specify the duration for which the user must wait before skipping the ad.
You can also offer a custom waiting message to the user. Beyond that, you get to choose between Google AdSense, or custom HTML of your own. However, what I found the most useful and handy was that a nifty Visual and HTML editor is available to help you add custom content via this addon to the videos. This means you can, basically, use this addon to show your own custom ads, or in fact, any such message that you might need to show before the video plays.
Support and Docs
Much like all other addons, the Monetizer addon too has its own dedicated tutorial, which provides detailed info to users. A video tutorial is missing, but the step-by-step tutorial does the job pretty well.
The Monetizer addon is priced at $24.90 for a single site license, and $79.90 for an unlimited sites’ license. The pricing is totally justified, considering the fact that this addon is what you will use to make money out of the videos anyway.
Most video websites nowadays showcase ads to their users via the video player itself, so the Monetizer addon is definitely a very good idea. Once again, the fact that it allows you to use your custom HTML code means you can offer special ad spots other than Google AdSense, and even promote your content to the users via the addon itself.
