Optinmonster Plugin Review

OptinMonster is a plugin designed to boost traffic by increasing the number of email subscribers to your website. This plugin provides multiple optin form types that pop up, converting visitors into subscribers and customers. OptinMonster also allows for reports to be carried out so that you can easily keep track of what’s increasing your traffic and what’s not.

Creating a New Optin

Installing the plugin is very easy and can be done in minutes. Creating an optin is made simple by following steps that guide you throughout the process, eliminating the need for documentation. Depending on the package that you have (I’m using the Basic version for this review), you will have different optin types to choose from, such as the Lightbox or Slide-In.

Configure

After choosing your desired optin Type , you go on to configure it by specifying the loading delay, cookie duration etc. The option to redirect to a custom or pre-specified page is also an option.

The next step is to connect the optin to the email marketing provider of your preference. OptinMonster allows the user to connect to all leading email marketing providers including Aweber, MailChimp and Campaign Monitor. Most will require you to enter and API. I’d love to get integration with my favourite newsletter system MailPoet.

Design

Next, comes the design. A selection of 4 designs are provided, and for the sake of this review, the Bullseye Theme was used.

Each design template enables the user to customize colors, such as border and footer colors.

The plugin allows you to upload your own image and input your own custom fields.

The amount of settings is enough for you to create your own custom optin without confusing you with endless possibilities.

Output

Finally, Output Settings should be specified. Again, a number of options are available, including the choice of loading your optin globally, on selected pages, post categories etc. An important tip to keep in mind is that you should make the optin appear on your top landing pages to increase the number of subscribers to your website. The plugin allows you to create more than one optin which in turn makes it easier for you to target specific visitors on specific pages.

As pointed out before, this plugin allows you to monitor your results with the use of reports. Another feature offered by the plugin is that it can detect when a user is about to close the window. It quickly prompts the user with an optin, and hopefully, you will soon be having more subscribers to your newsletters or emails. Finally, A/B split testing is also available in OptinMonster.

While all plans offer unlimited forms, analytics/reporting, A/B testing, and page-level targeting, the number of sites supported and the support and updates time varies from one plan to another. The Pro and Ultimate plans do, however, offer two additional features: exit intent which, in my opinion, is the best way to prompt users without being too invasive, and priority support.

Support and Documentation

Support response time is very quick and efficient, making it easy for anyone to get his/her questions answered, even a WordPress beginner. It is available through their online form found in your personal account. There is no telephone support available.

Final Conclusion and Suggestions

OptinMonster is very easy to install, and any user with any level of expertise can easily navigate around their simple and step by step guide to creating an optin. Every optin can be easily edited to suit your specific needs and the reports feature makes everything easy to monitor. More optin types are to be included soon, so watch out for those!

The only disadvantage I found was that the plugin is not Retina-ready, meaning the images in your template won’t display as nicely on Retina screens. However, it is surely something that the creator is willing to look into. Another important suggestion is to have the plugin designed to produce responsive popup displays, which would improve the website’s appearance and hence enhance our marketing efforts.

Overall, this is a highly recommended plugin that will convert more of your visitors into email subscribers.
