Having a site that loads fast is very important, and we need the right tools to test how fast our website is loading. If it’s not fast, it’s also crucial to know what is providing the bottleneck.

Google PageSpeed Insights
You can also put two websites head to head and see which one is faster using the Which Loads Faster service.

There is also YSlow by Yahoo it’s pretty similar to PageSpeed and is installed as browser extension, last time i used it, the extension offered more improvements tips than PS, can’t tell how it is now.
