The folks at WPMU DEV have apparently introduced the future of WordPress this week by releasing Upfront – a parent and child theme combo that provides you with a new way to customise and run a WordPress site from your front-end.
Well, we all know that drag-and-drop theme builders, composers and so on already exist in the WordPress world (and some of them have really established themselves). However, Upfront is promoting itself as an easier-to-use alternative that really is a front-end editor.
From the blog post released by wpmudev there certainly seems to be a lot to look forward to with Upfront. You’ve got a choice of elements to edit right there and then, regions to structure the look of your site, easy and intuitive text-editing and a lot more.
This might very well be the direction that WordPress needs to go in to “remain relevant”, and who knows what WPMU DEV’s competitors will be doing to compete with Upfront (if they even want to).
Having said that, I tested out their demo myself and after spending a few minutes playing around with it, I can honestly say it’s quite intuitive so far. However, we will be reviewing Upfront in more detail in the near future where we’ll take a deeper look into what it’s really made of.
There already seems to be a lot of excitement around this release, and I can’t wait to try it out myself and let you all know what it’s like to work with.
In the mean time, if you’re interested in trying it out for yourself you can either head to their demo sites or take advantage of their 50% off coupon on all yearly memberships for all new and existing customers!
