Earning more revenue is a common goal among WooCommerce store owners. However, the path to this goal has many different twists or turns. For your store, you could offer customer loyalty programs, expanding into new markets, and more. The WooCommerce Product Bundles plugin gives you another approach to help relate your product lines to each other and generate sales.

Bundling products together is a powerful way to boost profitability through grouping complementary products. To incentivize a purchase in the eyes of the customer, you’d typically offer a discounted price. This comes with plenty of benefits and plus points.

In our WooCommerce Product Bundles review, we’re going to take an in-depth look at the blog. It’ll cover how it works, why bundling products is a fantastic idea, and much more.

The Benefits of Bundling Products Together

Product bundles makes sense in a lot of situations. For instance, you may want to combine a shirt, shorts, and sneakers for the summer season. If you sell home decor, it may make sense to combine a cutlery set, a cafetiere, coasters, and tablecloths in one package.

There are lots of ways to do bundle products together, but one common theme is that most will offer a discount on that group of items.

There’s work involved in choosing and pairing products, then working out a discount. However, the positives you get from putting in the effort are manifold:

  • Increased sales. Customers will naturally purchase more items at once, which will net you more income and increase your Average Order Value (AOV). There are also cross-selling opportunities.
  • Improved customer experience. Product bundling can save customers time and make the shopping process more straightforward. This translates into a happier experience and more sales.
  • Enhanced marketing opportunities. You can promote specific products and special offers. This could be seasonal bundles, limited-time offers, holiday sets, or more. The goal is to put other, related products into your customer’s line of sight.
  • Streamlined inventory management. One surprising benefit of product bundles is inventory management. Efficiency improves at its core, which reduces the risk of overselling or selling out.

For WordPress users, there are a few options at your disposal in the form of plugin extensions for WooCommerce. In the next section, we’ll begin to talk about the focus of this post.

Introducing WooCommerce Product Bundles

The WooCommerce Product Bundles extension plugin does what it says on the tin. Its fundamental functionality is to create and manage product bundles for your store in a streamlined package.

The plugin lets you create bundles with any combination of your products. This could be single products, variable products, and even other bundles. There’s plenty of flexibility on tap to create a number of different bundles over and above simple variants and bulk discounts:

  • Assembled products. You can manage and sell components together as a bundle, which is ideal for those products with assembly requirements.
  • Mix and match. Customers could build their desired bundles through choosing which products to include.
  • Buy One Get One (BOGO). A common bundle format is to package additional products for no- or low-cost – i.e. with a discount.
  • Gift products. You could use bundles as a loyalty driver. With specific purchases, you could offer a free gift, which is essentially a bundle.
  • Inventory clearance. If you have old stock that needs its forever home, a bundle that includes those items can move the excess inventory on fast.
  • Frequently bought together. If your analytics note that certain products end up within the checkout together often, you could create a suitable bundle for them.

WooCommerce Product Bundles also offers various pricing models, such as fixed pricing, per-item pricing, and discounts based on the bundle. This flexibility gives you a way to tailor your pricing strategy to maximize your sales and income. In addition, you can work with different shipping options, which lets you set different rules, such as shipping items together or separately.

The plugin slots into your current WooCommerce setup, and uses the familiar interface you already use. Given this, using the WooCommerce Product Bundles doesn’t take much effort.

How Much WooCommerce Product Bundles Costs

The Product Bundle Builder for WooCommerce is the free version of the premium WooCommerce Product Bundles plugin. This gives you much of the core functionality of the Pro version, but not everything. The best decision is to opt for a premium plan.

The good news is that regardless of the tier you choose, the full feature set of the plugin is available to you. The only difference is in how many licenses you have available. A single site license is €39, five site licenses are €79.00, and 25 site licenses are €99.00. Each gives you access to a year’s worth of updates and support.

How to Use the WooCommerce Product Bundles Plugin: a Quick Walkthrough

Let’s get into using the plugin, but first, we’ll cover the essential basics. You’ll need to purchase and download WooCommerce Product Bundles, then install and activate it. While we’re looking at the premium version of the plugin here, you’ll also need to install the free version of the plugin, as this includes the core functionality you’ll need.

Once you have this in place, you can begin to set the plugin up.

1. Configure the Plugin Settings

You can find all of the settings you need within the Product Bundles tab on the WordPress dashboard:

The Settings page of the WooCommerce Product Bundles plugin.

Within this page, the Settings tab includes settings such as default discount methods, pricing display, and bundle handling. There are a lot of options to choose from, but there are groups – bundles! – of related options for ease of use:

  • Item View. This gives you ways to display the stock status, ratings, hover descriptions, and to control the visibility of unavailable items. You can also show prices and total savings within the cart, enable quick view modal dialog boxes, customize the quantity fields and icons, and more.
  • Pricing Display. You’re able to configure how bundle and item prices display on the Shop page to a greater degree. This includes showing total prices, individual item prices, and others.
  • Interaction Settings. You have a set of straightforward options here to open product links in new tabs and use pop-ups for product selection.
  • Coupon and Cart Management. There are settings to work with your bundles in relation to carts and coupons. For instance, you can apply coupons to the entire bundle, to individual items, or both. What’s more, you can define how you count bundle products in the cart.
  • Layout and Styling. There are lots of design options at your disposal, without the need for code. For example, you can position bundles on product pages using CSS selectors, customize the number of products per page within modals, and adjust colors for all sorts of elements of your bundles.

It’s worth taking time to set the plugin up using these settings. Regardless, once you save your changes, you can begin to create bundles of your products.

2. Create Your First Product Bundle

In this example, we’re going to create a mouse and keyboard bundle. The process is straightforward, and begins with you finding the primary product within the Products screen within WordPress. We’re going with the mouse as the primary product.

Within the product page, scroll down to the Product Data metabox and choose the Product bundle from the Product Type drop-down:

Next, look to the Product Bundles section, find the Add Item button, and click it:

On the resultant panel, use the search bar to find and select the products you want to include in the bundle. Note that you can add multiple products here:

Here, you can set the quantity and any applicable discounts for specific products. You can also set optional or mandatory items. You’re also able to adjust additional options such as visibility, sorting, and shipping settings for the bundle.

3. Set Pricing and Inventory

Your next step is to set your pricing and inventory values. Here, you can choose to set a fixed bundle price or calculate the price based on the individual prices of the bundled items. The Discount drop-down menu lets you set this for each product:

When it comes to inventory, you can set quantities in a few different ways. The Product Bundles section lets you choose the minimum and maximum number of items, along with the individual quantities for each product.

At this point, you’ll have most of the settings in place. You can preview your bundle now, and use the Publish button to make it live.

Your mouse and keyboard bundle will be live on the site, and your users will be able to make purchases of the two items together, on a discount.

The Support on Offer With WooCommerce Product Bundles

When it comes to support, your main inroad is through a dedicated contact form on the Asana Plugins website.

The Support form on the Asana Plugins website.

The only documentation available for the plugin comes in the form of a lengthy blog post, which helps if you need to find something out fast, but we’d like to see dedicated documentation articles that go into more detail.

There are no other support options, such as live chat or phone support, which is quite normal for WordPress plugin businesses.

It’s good to note that many of the five-star reviews on WordPress.org mentioned how good the customer support is from Asana Plugins. This is great to read, and clearly the system in place works well.
