WP Mayor is 5 years old! I started this site in November 2010 as a way of sharing what I was learning while developing WordPress websites for clients (I ran an agency in Malta at the time).
I’m very thankful of how the site has grown during the past five years, it’s a long time in internet years and while others have fallen by the wayside we have continued going strong. Thankfully this is no longer a one man job, Alyona and Mark have been doing a great job, and we also need to thank the many guest bloggers who have contributed and continue to contribute regularly.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank all the regular readers, as well as the many WordPress plugin/theme developers and service providers who have worked with us throughout the year as we strive to lead WordPress users to the best resources.
As per tradition, these are the most important stats for the past year:
- We’ve experienced a slight drop in traffic, 90,000 unique visitors/month mark compared to 100k+ last year, as measured in Google Analytics.
- 1,326 published posts.
- Twitter followers: 19,000+
- 7,100+ comments (thanks!)
- Alexa Rank: 17,596
We’ve lost some rank on Alexa. Although it’s not a super accurate system, it does serve to give us an incentive to do better. It also seems in line with the drop in traffic. The aim is to keep growing year on year so we need to work on that during 2016.
If you’re interested in how things changed from last year, you can see some stats on last year’s birthday post.
As you might know, we also develop the popular plugin WP RSS Aggregator, which is the premier plugin for importing RSS feed items into your WordPress blog. The plugin is doing really well and we have launched more add-ons for it this year. At the same time we are working on some more projects including add-ons for Easy Digital Downloads, for example the recently released EDD Checkout Message add-on.
Last year I promised a redesign for the site which never came to fruition, however we’ve done a lot of work on it already. Unfortunately things came up and we had to postpone the launch but we’re now back on track and hope to get the new design and logo out in the next few months.
Finally I’d like to thank all those who supported WP Mayor by purchasing our services. Without you we would not be able to keep running this site, so thanks for working with us!
