If you’re creating a WordPress plugin or theme for distribution outside the .org repository, one of the best things you can do is implement auto updates. Here are a few ways of making that work. The one I use for WP RSS Aggregator is EDD Software Licensing, it’s a whole package that includes things like license verification, auto updates and more.

  1. Good tip. The auto-updates are a welcome feature and work well so far on my install. Less time to worry about updates means more time to create great content.

  2. WP-Updates works well for us. It has a nice clean interface for managing versions, and it’s very easy to integrate into existing plugins. Not having to host the update functionality/service ourselves is one less thing for us to worry about too.

    Thank you very much for helping info on distribution option that will help premium developers to distribute their products.
    TGM-Updater-API seems to a good one, but there was no updates on it.
