WordPress is nowadays used on so many different kinds of websites, it is well past the age of being exclusively used for blogs.

Booking engines and booking calendars are an essential component in the cases of hotels, guesthouses, massage parlours, shows, restaurants etc.

The ideal solution in these cases is provided in the form of plugins, so let’s take a look at some of the best WordPress booking plugins available on the market.

As you view the many different booking plugins below, bear in mind that booking functionality is fundamentally resource-intensive, no matter which plugin you use. Before adding any significant new functionality to your WordPress site, you need to consider whether your current hosting is capable of handling that strain.

Once you actually have traffic, you don’t want visitors to your site to be confronted with unexplained delays, they are not

Hotel Booking WordPress App

This theme helps you create a beautiful, mobile friendly hotel website complete with booking and reservation management functionality. It is powered by the advanced Tevolution plugin and the Booking System add-on. Rather than a simple theme this is more of an app-theme for WordPress. Although you can’t buy the booking system add-on separately, when you buy this theme you get the Tevolution plugin and booking add-on within the theme. You can then customise the theme according to your needs, and if you’re a developer you could possibly also port Tevolution + booking system to another theme.

Appointment Booking Calendar

WordPress › Appointment Booking Calendar « WordPress Plugins

Appointment Booking Calendar is a plugin for accepting online bookings from a set ofavailable time-slots in a calendar. The booking form is linked to a PayPal payment process.

You can use it to accept bookings for medical consultation, classrooms, events, transportation and other activities where a specific time from a defined set must be selected, allowing you to define the maximum number of bookings that can be accepted for each time-slot.

WordPress › Booking Calendar Appointment Scheduler « WordPress Plugins

Accept appointments from your clients 24x7x365 on your website or blog. Unlike other calendar tools, this plugin allows your customers to book appointments with you directly from your website. This service is brought to you by and it’s free! It has a very powerful and simple Ajax interface which allows one click booking. With just oneclick your clients can see your availability in the entire month. Try and find yourself.

You can use Appointy to:

  • Schedule services or staff (Salons, Spa, Acunpuncture, Dog Grommers, Massage Therapists, One-to-One coaching, Gym, Dentists, Doctors etc)
  • Schedule Classes (Yoga Classes, Dance Classes, Fitness Classes etc)
  • Schedule Resources (Balloon Rides, Real Estates or Agents, Hotel Rooms, Machines, Pools, Courts, Rentals etc)
  • Schedule Events (Single or Multiple occuring events)
  • Almost anything that accepts appointments over phone can be scheduled.

The basic scheduling system is free and has no limit on bookings, staff and services.

Event Espresso

For those of you who are creating events and want to manage bookings and registrations to said events, Event Espresso is probably the best solution for you. It’s a complete event management plugin and has a number of add-ons you can use depending on what you want to do.

The Bookly plugin is an easy-to-use and easy-to-manage booking tool for service providers who think about their customers. It supports a wide range of services provided by both businesses as well as individual service providers, offering reservations through your website.

It allows you to setup any reservations quickly, pleasantly and easily. It supports reservations for all types of services including:

  • beauty, massage, wellness and healthcare reservations
  • sports, trainings, dance, fitness, yoga or pilates appointments
  • scheduling learning and educational courses, tutors and helpers
  • organisation of special events and free-time activities
  • searching and booking of visits to photographers, stylists, placing requests for babysitters, dog-walkers etc.

Bookly offers interesting solutions to make the booking process as pleasant as possible for customers. The only thing that is required from the client is to complete 5 easy steps. The intuitive interface, as well as clear and attractive design make this process extremely easy.

Customers have the possibility to find a convenient time for their appointments, select service provider, book the time slot and even pay for the services. One more thing that will please your clients is the ability to view the available booking time intervals in their own time zone.

You can try it out for yourself (both on the front-end as well as the back-end) using their demo.

Pinpoint Booking System

Pinpoint offers a way to rent accommodations, schedule services, book events or receive online reservations and appointments of any kind with your WordPress site. It’s easy-to-use, fast and clear to both check availability and send a booking request in a unique AJAX calendar.

The plugin has a free as well as a premium option, and it comes with a long set of features as well as a number of add-ons you can purchase at an additional cost.

While there are a number of alternatives when it comes to WordPress booking plugins, there is in my opinion a very good opportunity for plugin developers to go into this niche and develop serious competitors to the plugins mentioned in this post.

Here are a few other examples of where a booking calendar plugin can turn out to be useful:

  • Resource scheduling (Rental, Rooms, houses, apartments, Equipment Car pools, Hotel rooms)
  • Client scheduling (Beauty salon, Spa management, Hairdresser, Massage therapist, Acupuncture)
  • Meeting scheduling (Coaching, Phone advice)
  • Event scheduling (Conference, Course, Fitness center, Yoga class, Gym)
  • Patient scheduling (Doctor, Clinic, Medical)
  • Hotel bookings

Ideally with the ability for authorised users to add and maintain their own PAID listings?

I am running a directory type site and wish to offer a Bookings and Payments option to many different hotels on my site. Is this possible?

  8. 2013 to 2017 . still not a single plugin developed to user in mind all are other clients project which developer brings to market with little modification. when you ask for the some work they prcudly say,
    We are aaible for custozied

  9. I am also looking for the same plugin for our website – It would be great if anyone can refer best plugin for reservation.

  10. Hi,

Perhaps you can help me understand whether your plugin will meet our need. e.g.

I have a property website using WPResidence. We are also using UserPro and Enhanced Capability Manager Plugins. There are 4 users types. One user type, called Exhibitors, is able to list new properties. These users can register their own account and add a property to their listing. This property is connected to this user. We are looking for a Booking plugin that can be assigned to each individual property that when the Exhibitor is listing their property, or after, they have an ability of choosing a couple of predefined times and dates for Viewing of their property, with a number of available places. These Booking times can be made visible/invisible by default by Admin control.

Other user can register as Visitors, this is already controlled, and these Visitors users can choose a property they are interested in, choose a Booking time that suits them. They receive a communication about their booking. Also, by default, Admin can then send a reminder to all Bookings at a set time or automatically to all Visitors. This will contain information about each individual booking.

Does this make sense and what Plugin might do this?

    Kind regards,

  11. I think bookly would work for me but i need an option for later payments and invoicing do i need a seperate plugin or could you recommend me a similiar plugin with this option

  12. I’m looking for a plugin to make reservations, bookings, check availability and pricing and prehaps make payments for vacation homes. Does anyone have experience with a good system?

The current website is (going to be replaced with WordPress theme).

  13. I’d love to test out EDD Bookings without purchasing – a trial if possible, to show client outline of how it works. I’m hesitant to purchase first because between this extension and other extensions required for successfully booking rentals using EDD, we might have to spend another $200-300 usd for payment processor extensions, order admin etc for EDD and not sure if within budget but if EDD Bookings is the right solution, then purchasing other EDD extensions for other features might be worth it too.

  14. A little shameless self-promotion here, as I saw somebody further up the thread complaining that there wasn’t anything like Jomres for WordPress.

In recent months we’ve done a lot of work with our WordPress integration, and the current version works exactly the same in WP as it does in Joomla.

Note that Jomres is primarily for hotels/villas etc, tool hire, that sort of thing. It’s not really appropriate for those folks who’re looking for appointment booking systems. Sorry about that.

  15. Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help:

I’m looking for a reservation system for an airport pick-up to a selected destination hotel.

Each journey has a fixed price. eg

Airport 1 to Hotel 1 costs 20 Euros,
Airport 1 to Hotel 2 costs 25 Euros,
Airport 2 to Hotel 3 costs 40 Euros,
Airport 2 to Hotel 4 costs 30 Euros etc.

There are no time slots. Passengers specify their arrival and pick up date/time.
All bookings are for a return Journey from Airport to Hotel and then Hotel back to Airport on the specified dates.

    Requirements to be captured:

Drop down list with Arrival Airport, which when selected displays a list of drop off hotels
    for one to get selected.
    Arrival Date
    Arrival Time
    Return Date
    Return Time
    Flight Number
    Number of Passengers
    List of passenger Names
email address of customer making the booking
    Contact telephone number

Booking is then paid for in full, and reminders are emailed to client prior to their Arrival date.

    Thanks in advance.

  16. Not to be rude or anything, but basically none of the plugins you have actually tested in real world use cases? So how can the title of this post be “Best WordPress Booking Plugins”?

Best of what? Giving you the best affiliate commission?

Really, I expected a lot more from you!

    1. Hey Pete, nice to see you stopping by with a comment once again. I have actually tested all these plugins at one point or another. These are the best I’ve found although admittedly in the area of bookings there are no plugins that really shine as being very well constructed. That is one of the reasons why I’m planning on releasing a few booking plugins myself in the coming months. The first one will be EDD Bookings, an extension that provides booking functionality for Easy Digital Downloads.

You’re very welcome to get in touch with me if you want to test out our plugins and give me your feedback, even more so if you have a specific use case in mind that we can cater for.

      1. Hi Jean, thanks for your reply. After posting I realised that you actually did not write this article in June 2015 as it says at the top, but a few years earlier. Your other post, which is in fact written this year has much better information and I believe right away that you indeed have tested all those plugins yourself. Via that post I also found what seems to be the excellent Booking Systems Pro plugin. Combined with WooCommerce it seems to be an amazing booking system for accommodation type sites.

Thanks for the tip on EDD Bookings, I added my name to the list. Sounds promising although I don’t like the frontend of EDD and the fact that you cannot change output easily, but here’s hoping that your addon changes all that.

        1. You’re welcome Piet. Glad you found the other post useful. If EDD Bookings is successful we plan to develop a stand alone booking plugin too.

  17. Hi thank you for putting together this post,
I just wanted to share a good plugin that I found and is really affordable compared with the other plugins that are on the market.
With 38$ you get everything more importantly ppl can pay with paypal, etc you can integrate with google calendar
    The link is over here:

Hope it helps to save you some money 🙂

  18. Hi,

I am thinking of buying your theme. I want to make a website for a tour company and wish to have a tool for selecting the date and a selection of time for the tour, and checkout via Paypal.

Does this theme include everything I need?

    Thanks, Jake

  19. I’m looking for a booking / reservation system for hiring out items, there are say 5 items with varying amounts on each (up to say 10) all at the same rental price per week. I need a booking system that doesn’t require any payment links and to show on a calender whats available on the days and whats not, also I want a try before but NOT a buy first and try later, It’s near impossible to get a plugin that’s suitable. Tried the car rental plugins and they can only cater for 1 single car to rent. Cant people get their heads around whats required out there?

  20. I am looking at a course booking system. The courses are 3 Day courses and 5 Day Courses with the possibility of having staff filling in their availability as well to take courses on any of their dates.Anything that matches up then can become a course. I have looked into several plugins but it is difficult to work out what the some pricing comparisons to make an informed choice. My favoured plugins were: JoeBooking,Checkfront Online Booking System, and Booking System Pro. Not sure about the pricing of the latter for an extended licence. Any

  21. I have been searching and searching for a scheduling system that works for a laundry pick up and delivery business. Where customers can schedule a pick up day and time frame and also schedule a day and time frame for it to be delivered back when order is completed. A plus would be one that worked with the wordpress accounts so their information and orders could be manged and tracked on the site by the customers and the admin. An even better plus would be if depending on their selections during the scheduling form, any extra fees or prices would automatically generate and they could use the payment system we have with woocommerce to pay a deposit or at least authorize their card so it can be charged upon completion of the order!

I have had no luck finding this, let me know if there is a hidden gem of a plugin I just haven’t found yet! thanks to all

  22. Hi there,
I’m looking for a course booking system for WordPress such as “Seminar for Joomla”.
Here is an exampel of a working instance:

    Has anyone any recommendation?

  23. Hello, don’t know if i will get any answer as it appears to be a dead thread 🙂

I’m looking for a plugin for rental of party supplies and staff for wordpress, any ideas or suggestions?

    1. HI Frederick

Just checking if you managed to find a plugin for rental of party supplies?
if so would you mind sharing the plugin details with me

  24. Hi there,

I am looking for a “Make a Reservation Online” plugin for my Naz Limo LLC limousine company. Im looking for it almost 2 days but can’t find anything reliable. It should have three steps, like dropping address info, selecting car and payment process. I found a good one in this link but not sure which plugin they used.

    Anyone can help?

  25. I have found another WordPress Plugin which is an availability calendar and pricing table plugin, which lets you add an individual calendar to a post, page or custom post type. Great for real estate websites that are built with WordPress, or a holiday rental site.

  26. Hello, im a bit confused. first time dealing with anything that has to do with web developing. looking to use if available or purchase. a calendar plug-in, that allows my clients to click the date, select a length, ie:1hr and then it lead them into purchase via pay pal. i’m a sole prio.

  27. Hi mitchpopilchak,

I don’t mean to spam but I really feel our plugin can help here. I would like to invite you to trial It works great with Rooms vs Events but also for tours and rental.

First, create your account here: and set it up. Then, download the WordPress plugin to embed the widget (calendar) into your website: .

Looking forward to hearing your feedback.

  28. I am looking for a simple plugin so that a community centre can have people book their facility online and pay a deposit in advance.

I have searched the web and seem to be in the same frustrating place as the rest of you.

Appointment Plus is an expensive monthly plan that is likely too much for their needs

WP Booking Calendar is kinda Meh and it doesn’t appear to handle Rooms vs Events.

Booking System Pro looks pretty good. And even though everyone is cranky about waiting for version 2.0 … they have consistently delivered updates 12 times in 21 months. That’s pretty good for a plugin that only has a one-time fee. I hope they change their model to a yearly subscription and ramp up their features and support.

Checkfront is another monthly subscription service that I like better than Appt + and is a pretty impressive contender.

Hopefully, someone comes up with a solid plugin!

  30. Hi, I am looking for a really reliable, professional yet simple Booking Calendar System for my Bed and Breakfast Lodge. I have 3 types of rooms and prices – Single room, Double Room and a Suite and I need customers to be able to check availability/dates etc.. and make their booking – also possibly pay with PayPal. Can anyone suggest a booking system that is really good for hotels.

I am currently looking at either Booking System Pro (by dotonpaper) and apparently their new version #2 should be released very soon! … and the other one I am looking at is WP Booking Calendar which seems to be loaded with features.

Has anyone used either of these or can anyone recommend one over the other or a different one possibly that may even be better? I really need a system that is versatile yet simple to operate in ADMIN with good reporting.

I look forward to receiving any suggestions or advice and if anyone is currently using one of these Plugins for a Hotel or a Holiday Lodge/ Bed & Breakfast or similar it would be great to hear back from you.

    Thank you so much!

  31. Hi, I am looking for an apartment booking plugin, that would allow me to display different prices for different users (if a staff member is logged in, he would be able to book the apartment for a special price, for example with a 10% discount). Do you know aboute some plugin like that? Thank you

  32. ok so everyone seems to agree that there isn’t a goto solution. However I need a plugin now. The requirement is for booking time slots of multiple service providers.
I’m looking at Booking System Pro, WP Booking Calendar or Appointments+. Can anyone with experience using the plugins recommend one of these over the others?

    1. I would go with Appointments + to be honest, its not perfect but will have enough in the settings to deal with many situations. There is a need for a plugin at the level of something like gravity forms in terms of professionalism here but appointments + is a solid one from my experience of using it over the last year or so.

    2. Hi Reuben,

I am Jennifer, the co-founder of BirchPress. It is a pity that our BirchPress Scheduler Pro is not in your list. Our plugin is designed to help all sorts of businesses to take online bookings. I believe you will not be disappointed if you try it out.

  33. I would love to find a plugin that had good conference management functionality – i’ve looked at several which do part of the job. the biggest thing that I am missing is ability to take accommodation and add on bookings with costs related added to final billed amount. If you know of any please let me know.

  34. Bookings+ was not a scam. It was made a scam by some people. Daniel Zairi owner of the WP-OBS Plugin, was the actual person for whom i worked day and night to create this plugin. The contract was for 1000$ and for a full year support. In the mean time, we had bad terms, and had to drop off with him. I then re-accessed market demand, and then created a new plugin called Bookings+ and it was a success. Got jealous of it, Daniel complained Mika of WordPress about it that we copied the code from him. Without verifying facts, and without even comparing both codes, we were thrown out of the wordpress like a waste paper. This is the real story of it. Later when the came about the truth they simply banned WP-OBS too for voilating. But because they don’t want to bring us back on the board because this would make their reputation down.

I am out of work at the moment, and want that my plugin should be back to the market again.

    Please support!

  35. I’m trying to find a booking plugin that allows users to pay a deposit, then pay the balance say a week later having been sent an email reminder. I’ve a feeling none exists, and I can’t see such facilities mentioned in any of the plugins reviewed above. If anyone could help I’d be v grateful.

      1. Hi Chris – I’m afraid I didn’t, though I researched it heavily and almost paid decent money for a couple of systems. Events plugins, I discovered, can be extremely complicated, yet still without achieving what I was after.

  36. Great share but I wonder is there any WordPress plugin to archieve the same functions with a Joomla Extension, I want to create a site like this ) with the same functions in WordPress instead of Joomla.

  37. We’re looking for a booking plugin for a tutoring site. Do you know if any of these have the ability to track the client’s remaining hours and the total number of hours that a tutor was booked for?

  38. Hello
    Jean Galea
I need a booking plugin for a bus transport company public land, the pluguin should handle the daily schedule of the different cities where the company pays its bus service, which has the capability of customer choice, from where and to where directs the client, and the position to occupy within the bus. Also the company lends private restroom groups of people.
What plugin do you recommend, and where I can purchase it.
    thank you very much.

  39. Hi all, like donnacha here I have spent some time over the last month or so really diving into these plugins and to be honest its amazing nothing really top notch exists for bookings services. I myself have a pretty simple request. I have 2 conference rooms. I need users to be able to choose their date, start time and end time that day and book. No payments needed. Then other users need to see availability. Appointments + was most promising but it forces the time slots so its a pain for my requirements at least. Any ideas on a simple booking system that the user can choose a start time and end time?

    1. A plugin that implements the following plugin would be handy for you:

I’m working on a new booking plugin and will try to incorporate this feature.

  40. anyone have experience with this product? I need a good solution for a vacation home rental (reservations) and a spa facility (appointments). I’ve looked at all of the systems and they may or may not work all I’ll probably find that out when building it. Thanks for this article and comments.

    1. I spent quite a bit of time testing it because it looked promising and I really wanted it to be good. It wasn’t.

It uses a complex time filter system that has quite a few problems and is poorly documented. The main problem, however, is that the German developer appears to be, well, … a little unstable and unable to cope with the pressures or running and supporting a plugin that businesses depend upon, I would certainly recommend reading his News/blog section before purchasing and pay close attention to the dates.

So many people are desperate for a solution that they rush into buying on the basis that the website seems good, featuring lots of functionality. Always try to resist that temptation until you confirm that the plugin is actively, consistently developed and supported. When was the last update? Is that info hard to find? Is the support forum visible only to those who have already paid? Does the blog make a lot of excuses and refer extensively to personal problems? Does the the price structure keep changing? Is it possible to find websites that are successfully using the plugin?

When someone finally releases a good WordPress booking plugin, there will be a lot of buzz, it will be major news and you will see plenty of people using it. Unfortunately, until then, Joomla. For your Spa, however, there are plenty of WordPress appointments plugins – that is a much easier problem to solve.

  41. Having a hard time choosing between Zingiri and Appointments+. I really need a customizable form and for users to be able to input directly into their calendar. Calendar needs to sync depending on the device they’re using and it should sync with the service provider. I think I have narrowed it down to those two. Great article but it’s hard to tell between these two which you think is best…

  42. Anyone have any experience with Vcita? I’m trying to choose a plugin now, and that was on my list of potentials.

    1. I also am trying to choose a plugin now and am wondering about Vcita? It’s not included in this list? Does anyone have any experience with it? KDS, did you end up going with it? Thanks

      1. I haven’t chosen yet. I like the free version, but it doesn’t sync with external calendars, so I need the paid version. Problem is, paid version is an expensive monthly subscription, which I absolutely hate, for any plugin. I want to just buy it and that’s it, then purchase updates if I choose.

  43. @Roland Looks like they’re overwhelmed with support requests then, not a valid excuse though. Thanks for the heads up.

  44. I use woocommerce for a clients store and they would like to start taking bookings for their consulting online. Do any of the plugins support woocommerce. they would need something like js-appointment which looks suited to consultants more than some of the others.
Can multiple sessions be booked? She usually does half day, full day and 2 day sessions

    1. Hi Quentin, I am also looking for woocommerce integration.
      Have you find anything?
I need to get something within the next few months, in case would you be interested in joining forces?

        1. I can see your support request on Codecanyon, let me go ahead and contact the author myself, so hopefully he’ll reply to you.

        2. Franco from JS Restaurant told me that their official support system can be found here: .

          Try that out.

          1. Been there, done that…
            4/21/13 I submitted a support ticket,
4/22/13 they asked for the wordpress site login info,
4/22/13 I provided it, and I have not gotten a response since then…even after a couple of reminders (by me) on 4/23/13 and 4/24/13..

  45. It seems that many people are still not satisfied with the bookings and appointments plugins currently on the market. If you are one of them, it would be interesting to hear what features you place primary importance on in such a plugin, so it can serve as a starting point for those who want to have a go at creating a better plugin for this purpose.

  46. Yes I agree about donnacha’s final statement- seriously NONE of the Appointments and Bookings Plugins available are worthy. Appointments + might be ok for some limited business models, but my client is losing business because the UX is so complicated, he sang me three verses and a chorus explaining how I could book with it. He is a vocal instructor with Private Lessons, Group Classes in 2 levels and… well how hard could it be to manage that? So I am going to develop something custom which works with his Payment Processor (Elavon/ and his Membership software (Wishlist Member). I will NOT be producing a plugin out of my efforts, but when I’m finished you are welcome to see if I hit the marks at his site. Frankly, I’m so busy I WISH there was a plugin so I didn’t have to do it, but for this reason alone I think there’s a HUGE market for something real. I hope WPMU does better than the way they “recommend” ahem Appointments+ which is about to get fed to the chickens- they’re cannibals ya know.

    1. Looking forward to see what you come up with, and I agree that this a great niche for WordPress developers to enter. Appointments+ is also developed by WPMUdev, so I’m not sure what you mean by referring to them recommending it.

  47. Jose, if you are going to pimp your own products, you should use a fake name, not the same one you used to register the domain.

Your plugin is nowhere near to being ready, you should not be accepting cash for it.

    1. Natalie. That one looks suspicious. From 99 dollar. No demo. No references. And link to free version goes to the search result within WordPress catalogue and does NOT even include Booking+… Strange? Pretty much yes.

    2. Yes, Bookings+ is a scam, just a badly executed rewrite of a well-known appointments plugin.

To confuse matters further, WPMUdev are planning to release a legit plugin with the same name, Bookings+, but it has been badly delayed. No idea if it will be any good but the developer does seen to be aware of what features are essential.

If they get it right, they will have a huge hit on their hands because NONE of the existing booking plugins are any suitable for serious, real-world use.

    3. Unfortunately Bookings+ was a scam and the plugin has now been removed from the plugin repository.

  48. Have you even tried out Booking System Pro? It’s useless. It’s a cute and responsive booking form, but backend lacks even the basic features as view, list and sort your bookings. It’s plenty of free plugins that offers much more features than this one.

    1. Thanks for your feedback Rickard, can you suggest some of the better plugins you refer to, so we’ll take a look at them too?

  49. it seems that appointmnts+ is not well-suited for hotel-like reservation, but more toward hourly service bookings. is that correct? if so, is booking system pro the best around? thanks.

      1. Thanks Jean – I saw this after I installed and set up BirchPress (which was after 2 long days of hunting for a good solution that wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg when we scale up but still handles us now). BirchPress does exactly the basics of what you would expect and nothing more in the free version, but also nothing less. Handling 2 service providers doesn’t require an upgrade, multiple services, unlimited bookings – it’s pretty much unlimited except you can’t customize the form, which isn’t that bad of a deal. I’d recommend it.

  50. As a restaurant owner, I would LOVE someone to create a comprehensive reservations plugin and would pay big bucks for it. I mean, one specifically for restaurant online reservations. The ones out there have too many unneeded options. I want something simple for me to install, simple for my customers to use.

    1. Annemarie, I designed a website for a Eurasian fusion restaurant last year. They use Reservation Genie. It’s a 3rd party service so your customers leave the site, but Reservation Genie offers basic branding (logo, picture, colors). As a designer, I’m very impressed with the coding and design of their system. The reservation fits iPhone sizes as well. You should look into it.
